WHAT ARE THE TWO HABITS ,MOST DESTRUCTIVE TO SUCCESS
FOUNDATION OF SUCCESS
Growing up in Tamale,Northern Ghana, many young lads as my self were sent to school while at very tender ages. The logic behind this being the notion that the path to success emanate from education.
That education is the key to success, is true in more senses than one.Yet, I beg to say that education and hardwork May not be the foundation to success.
Neither of both may be shouldered without a good and healthy life.So I say
The foundation of success in life is good health: that is the basis of fortune; it is also the basis of happiness. A person cannot accumulate a fortune very well when he is sick. He has no ambition; no incentive; no force. Of course, there are those who have bad health and cannot help it: you cannot expect that such persons can accumulate wealth, but there are many in poor health who need not be so.
LAWS OF NATURE AS LAWS OF HEALTH
If, then, sound health is the foundation of success and happiness in life, how important it is that we should study the laws of health, which is just another expression for the laws of nature!
You see the closer we keep to the laws of nature, the closer we are to good health, and yet there are so many youngsters who pay no attention to natural laws, but absolutely defy them, even against their own natural interest. We need to know that the "sin of ignorance" is never forgiven in regard to the violation of nature's laws; their infringement always brings a penalty. A child may shove its finger into the fire without knowing it will burn, and so gets hurt, not even repentance now will not stop the pain.
Many young people as myself knowingly violate the laws of nature against their better judgement , for the sake of style. For instance, no living thing naturally loves tobacco except a vile worm; yet how many young men there are who deliberately train an unnatural appetite, and overcome this natural dislike for tobacco, to such a degree that they get to love it. They have got hold of a poisonous, filthy weed, or rather the weed has taken a firm hold of them. The dangerous thing about this artificial appetite is that, similar to jealousy, it,grows by what it feeds on;when you love that which is unnatural, a stronger appetite is created for it.There is an old proverb which says that "habit is second nature," but an artificial habit is stronger than nature.
Take for instance,an old cigarette -smoker,his love for the cigar is stronger than his love for any particular kind of food.He can give up fried chicken easier than he can give up smoking.
ON ALCOHOL
These remarks apply even more to the use of intoxicating drinks. Young and growing up men such as my self hate to think of them selves as boys and immature. They will like to go to bed boys and wake up men.And to accomplish this they copy the drinking habits of their elders.
But if I’m allowed to give any advice, to make money, requires a clear brain. A man has got to see that two and two make four; he must lay all his plans with reflection and forethought, and closely examine all the details and the ins and outs of business. As no man can succeed in business unless he has a brain to enable him to lay his plans, and reason to guide him in their execution, so, no matter how much a man may be blessed with intelligence, if the brain is messy , and his judgment warped by intoxicating drinks, it is impossible for him to carry on business successfully. How many good opportunities will be passed, never to return, while a man is sipping a "social glass," with his friend! How many foolish bargains will be made under the influence of the Alcohol, which temporarily makes its victim think he is rich. How many important chances will be put off until to-morrow, and then forever, because the wine bottle has thrown the system into a state of drowsiness ,taking away the energy so essential to success in business. Verily, wine is a mocker.
The use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, is destructive to the success of the business man.It is an evil, utterly indefensible in the light of philosophy; religion or good sense. It is the parent of nearly every other evil in our country.
